Online Blackjack Strategy
Whether playing online Blackjack or offline Blackjack, the most important factor
in strategizing the game is how many decks are being used. Internet
casinos have "decks" used during play just as do land-based casinos, and you
need to know how many in order to determine the likeliness of a card coming up
at any given time. Different casinos will deal using different amounts of decks,
anywhere from 1 to 15 (usually somewhere in the middle.)
Once you know how many decks are being used, you will know how many cards of any
given value are still available in the deck by paying close attention to the
cards that have already been dealt. For example, in a single deck
scenario, if three aces have been dealt and half the deck is still available,
there is only one ace left in the remaining half. If the cards were split up
evenly, half the deck would ordinarily contain two aces, so the odds of
getting an ace in any given hand (from the remaining half-deck) are less than
they would be from a freshly shuffled deck.
This may sound hard to keep track of, but bear in mind in an online
casino there's no dealer or pit boss watching you take notes, so go ahead and
grab a pen and paper and write down what comes up. Once you've established which cards are more likely to come up, you can play
accordingly. For example, if the player or dealers hand is a 12, and there are
many face cards and 10's left in the deck, it increases the likelihood of a bust
on another card. On the flipside, if the majority of the face cards had already
been dealt, there is less likelihood of a 10 coming up, so higher hands are
better candidates for extra cards (if needed.) Reading the deck isn't really possible until the majority of the cards have been
dealt in previous hands, so play conservatively until you're towards the end of
the cards being dealt. When you're confident hands are in your favor, bet
accordingly.
The same principle applies to multiple-deck games, it just requires more
patience and a fatter bankroll.
