Anti-Online Gambling Ban Proposal
Moves Forward
The post security bill will now go forward
to a voice vote in the Senate and until now had not been able to reach
this point. The bureaucratic process and the President’s signature are
the only things left before this bill goes into law and the
anti-gambling measure was attached to it.
The online gambling measure would make it illegal for banks and credit
card companies to make deposits to online gambling sites. Currently,
many banks and credit card companies already prohibit players from using
them to fund their online account, but there are ways around this, of
which both the online gaming sites, and players have found. Many fear
gambling is a dangerous addiction that undermines the family, dashes
dreams, and frays the fabric of society.
Congress has grappled with this
issue for 10 years, and during that time we’ve watched this shadow
industry explode. They also say that online gambling is illegal and
although the individual player can’t possibly be policed, they can ban
the financial institutions that fund and provoke this gambling. They’ve
been trying to pass this regulation for over 10 years and have been
unsuccessful, but now they are making headway and the casinos and online
sites will have to come up with other creative ways for their players to
fund their accounts.
The e-check process which has become a very popular funding method, will also be
included in the banning. Western Union has also joined in on putting a stop to
funding gaming sites and even has a statement on their site and attempts to
prohibit their services from being used for such a purpose. The problem is,
however, that the sites are getting around it making it difficult to be
enforced.
